The Pupil Premium is additional Government funding for schools to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

At Lincoln Carlton Academy we have an ambition that we together will 'create a haven in which children flourish'. We believe that every child, regardless of their background, should be given the very best education. We will support all our pupils who are identified as disadvantaged, to achieve in every area of their education.

The school receives Pupil Premium based on the number of children in the following groups:

• £1,385 for every pupil who claims free school meals or who has claimed free school meals in the last six years.
• £2,410 for every pupil who has left local authority care through adoption, a special guardianship order or child arrangements order.
• £320 for every pupil with a parent who is serving in HM Forces or has retired on a pension from the Ministry of Defence. This funding is to help with pastoral support.

Is your child eligible for the Pupil Premium?

Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:

• Income Support
• income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
• Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
• Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

If eligible, our school will receive the additional Pupil Premium funding. Schools have the freedom to spend the funding, in a way they think will best support the raising of attainment for Pupil Premium pupils. Visit the Government website for more information about the Pupil Premium, including information on how Pupil Premium can be used to support children.

Pupil Premium strategy

We want to use our Pupil Premium funding in the most effective way possible. We have applied a tiered approach to our strategy which combines staff development to improve teaching, targeted academic support and wider strategies that support readiness to learn.

Recovery Premium funding 2022-23

The Recovery Premium is additional funding for schools to provide further support to disadvantaged pupils.

Recovery Premium funding is allocated using the same data as the Pupil Premium. This means the following pupils will attract Recovery Premium funding for their school:

• pupils who are eligible for free school meals (FSM)
• pupils who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years
• children looked after by local authorities and referred to as looked-after children (LAC)
• post looked-after children (post-LAC)

School allocations are calculated on a per pupil basis and mainstream schools receive £145 for each eligible pupil.

As the pupils who this funding applies to are Pupil Premium children, the allocation and spending of this funding is outlined within our Pupil Premium Strategy 2022-23.
