Year One is an exciting time for our pupils as they make the transition from the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum to the National Curriculum. Our teachers and support staff work hard to support this transition process and recognise that it will be different for each child. The year begins with a topic called 'Superheroes' and this has been chosen specifically to engage and motivate the children as they begin to get used to more adult led activities. The topic starts with a Superhero WOW day when our children dress up and are immersed in a day of superhero antics that will inspire them in their learning during the weeks ahead.

What are the topics called in Year 1?

The Year One curriculum is split into six topics that provide an overarching theme to each half term.

Year One Topics

The purpose of each topic is to provide an exciting hook for the learning in every half term. The topics have been carefully selected to match the interests of the children in our community and there is always the opportunity for flexibility to support individual cohorts.
